Myaamia Homes kiihkayonki

Introduction to Myaamia Homes

The Miami Tribe of Oklahoma’s Cultural Resources Extension Office would like you and your family to join us at Fox Island County Park for introspective exploration on the Miami home over time. From alakiihkwikaani (bark covered lodges) to the peepakakišikaana (framed houses) of today, Myaamia people have called many dwellings “niiki” my home. In this presentation, George Ironstrack will provide a history of the Myaamia home and in the discussion that follows the community will talk about ways in which our homes have always been Myaamia homes and ways in which we can all increase the presence of our language and culture in our homes." Light refreshments will be provided.
